Do you ever feel like one of those toys that collapses when you push a button? Everything kind of fell apart when the string inside wasn't pulled tight enough. Let's discuss why that could be!
For people with hypermobility, we’re more reliant on making sure our button isn’t pressed. Imagine the button is your nervous system. This involves signals between your brain, spinal cord, and the rest of your body. The nervous system can either be over or under active. This system is also responsible for high or low tone of muscles. It’s how we’re “wired”.
Connective tissues are found all throughout your body. For those of us who have looser tissues (loose ligaments are another term sometimes used), we’re even more reliant on our button not being pressed. One little stressful event, less sleep, moving slightly more or less than usual, try a new food, etc. and we turn into a noodle so quickly.
It’s not that you’re doing damage or that any one of these things is inherently bad, but sometimes our focus needs to be the overall system (button) and not just one joint at a time.
Muscle strength is essential, but so is the overall system working together. We’re here to support you as you navigate the complexity of our bodies!
