T-Rex Hands at Night

While finding comfort from sleeping with your arms and hands curled up is associated with different conditions, for hypermobile people it all comes down to floppy wrists.

Your wrists are made up of a ton of ligaments, tendons, and bones. Yes, there are muscles, but they’re quite small. If you lack stability there, you may have a tendency to move your wrists too far in one direction.

This may lead to carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, and elbow pain (many wrist muscles attach at your elbow).

Just like when we talked about the sleeping position, our body wants to feel safe, especially when sleeping. This will cause us to hold our arms close to our center of our body to communicate to the nervous system that we are safe. This, mixed with floppy wrists, leads to T- Rex hands.

What can we do about this? Grip strengthening & bracing at night (if you have carpal tunnel syndrome or nerve pain).

I, personally, embrace my T-rex hands at night because they do not cause me pain. For others, I may recommend a brace.

Do you sleep like a T-rex?
