Knee Pain
My hypermobility journey started with subluxed kneecaps. While not everyone with hypermobility has knee pain, it is pretty common. Let’s talk about 3 reasons people may have hypermobility related knee pain.
1. Kneecap subluxations or dislocations: This can be due to general knee anatomy (a shallow knee joint) or due to ligamentous hypermobility, causing the kneecap to move too much. Hip strength and tracking of the knee cap can also impact this.

2. Ligament Sprains: A ligament connects 2 bones. These are naturally “loose” for us with hypermobility. Frequent sprains can happen due to this. What matters is that we strengthen muscles and tendons, while protecting our ligaments.

3. Tendonitis: A tendon connects a bone to a muscle. These can get tiny tears due to overuse. We are very prone to overuse injury when muscles are working double time to stabilize. Tendons can be painful, but respond really well to strengthening in the long term.
